Biography

Gabrielle Curry (b. 2004, Nassau, Bahamas) investigates places through her connections with the environment and the liminal qualities of this relationship. Having grown up in The Bahamas and immersed in the vibrancy of the Bahamian landscape, Curry draws from elements of her previously occupied spaces while incorporating where she currently resides: London, England. She explores the merging of these places, which she deems “the space between.”

Working across mixed-media collage, painting, moving image, textiles, and ceramics, she continually experiments with visually representing this space. To Curry, this space acts as a connectivity site, a living, breathing, organic form full of energy. She experiments with the three-dimensionality of two-dimensional objects and surfaces.

Curry’s practice primarily involves fragmenting images and materials, through which she has begun to question her sense of place and memory. Drawing from aerial views of the landscapes she’s occupied, she looks into how traces and movements reflect her connection to place.

Curry has completed a Foundation Diploma in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London (UAL), and intends to graduate with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts, UAL, in 2026. She is participating in a student exchange program at Zurich University of the Arts, Zurich, Switzerland (Fall 2024).

She attended Sue Bennett-Williams’ After School Arts and Music Program (ASMAC). Being a part of this program, she was awarded opportunities to have her work exhibited at The Central Bank of The Bahamas for over eight years. In 2019, Curry attended Summer Arts Immersion (SAI) at the University of The Bahamas (UB). At the end of the program, her work was featured at UB.

In 2023, her work was also shown at the Lethaby Gallery, London, for the Foundation Graduate Showcase at Central Saints Martins. Curry worked in a collective in 2024 and was in a group exhibition, Semantic Loss.
